The 9-15th June is carers week.
Although we don’t see ourselves as carers, we are just doing what anyone else would, right?
No, we are fighting for these children, we are advocating for them, we are protecting them from things that affect them more than others and we have to take on the world to get a diagnosis because if we don’t, who will!!
Often referred to as parentcarers (I’m not sure if I like that term), we are essentially parents and carers. We have to take on that role, and unlike some that caring aspect will not coming to an end when child benefit stops. We will still be attending appointments, because they only process the first 5 words of a conversation or explaining what the doctor said because the tap was dripping or the smell in the room and they are using every aspect of their being not to have a meltdown. Or talking them out of some more trouble they’ve got into today.
Obviously that’s not where our job finishes either, we may also be caring for elderly relatives, other family members, or just generally trying to stop world war 3 from happening before tea time.
You all deserve the world. I understand how hard you work to provide and support others. I see how you put yourself last. I feel the exhaustion of knowing that just because the eventual diagnosis letter has come, the fight will go on. You are amazing, your dedication makes a difference to someone’s life everyday. Be proud of yourself!
From our spicy family to yours x
